From a young age, Nashra Hashmi was known for her curiosity and eagerness to explore new ideas.  She listened closely, observed carefully, and carried within her a quiet ambition to explore the world beyond her textbooks. Like many young learners, however, expressing her thoughts confidently did not always come easily.

Beneath that hesitation was a strong determination to grow and learn.

Her journey took a meaningful turn when she became part of the learning spaces created by the Pehlay Akshar Foundation (PAF). At PAF, English learning extended far beyond textbooks. Through phonics activities, storytelling sessions, word games, and lively classroom discussions, Nashra discovered that language could be playful, expressive, and empowering. The supportive environment encouraged her to ask questions, share ideas, and slowly build confidence in her own voice.

Over time, this confidence shaped the way she approached learning and opportunities around her.

After completing school in 2021, Nashra continued her academic journey and is currently in her second year of a Bachelor of Arts programme. With a growing interest in justice and social issues, she has set her sights on building a future in Law. The communication skills and self-belief she developed during her formative years now help her engage with complex ideas and express her perspectives with clarity.

Recognising her curiosity and sense of responsibility, Pehlay Akshar later invited Nashra to join the organisation as a Fellow. In this role, she supports learning sessions, interacts with students, and contributes to field-level initiatives with empathy and commitment. For a young student stepping into a professional environment for the first time, the fellowship has strengthened her confidence, teamwork, and communication skills.
