During her early learning years, Siddhi Kadam was recognised for her sincerity and attentive approach to her studies. She was eager to learn but often hesitant to speak, especially in English. Like many first-generation learners, she needed encouragement, patience, and a safe space to develop confidence at her own pace.
Siddhi’s journey with the Pehlay Akshar Foundation (PAF) began in Grade 4. Through engaging activities such as Point & Read, storytelling, flashcard vocabulary exercises, and language games, she gradually grew comfortable using English in everyday conversations. These sessions strengthened her vocabulary and helped her overcome hesitation, allowing her to participate more actively in class.
One experience she remembers fondly is Pehlay Akshar’s Summer Camp, where learning felt creative and collaborative. Through group activities and teamwork, Siddhi discovered that communication could be both enjoyable and empowering.
This confidence later began to show in her college life. After completing school, Siddhi pursued a Bachelor’s in Accounting and Finance (BAF) at Byramjee Jeejeebhoy College of Commerce. During a NAAC accreditation visit, she stepped forward to share feedback in English despite initial hesitation. In another instance, during a Business Communication presentation, she reminded herself to stay confident and delivered one of the strongest presentations in her class.
Alongside academics, Siddhi remained actively connected with PAF through mentorship sessions and career workshops, often asking thoughtful questions that impressed mentors and trainers. Recognising her dedication and engagement, she was selected as a Pehlay Akshar Fellow, where she facilitated English Rooms, mentored younger students, and supported lesson planning.
Despite being eligible for a scholarship, Siddhi chose the Fellowship, valuing hands-on learning and contribution to the PAF community. She has also volunteered during PAF events, gaining experience in teamwork, leadership, and responsibility.
From a hesitant student to a confident college learner and mentor, Siddhi Kadam’s journey reflects how steady support and opportunity can nurture lasting confidence.
“Pehlay Akshar’s training went beyond books. It gave me real-life skills and the confidence to use them.”
